Our Mission
The Clermont County Building Inspection Department is certified by the State of Ohio to regulate all residential and commercial building construction in Clermont County, including all Villages within the County. The Building Inspection Department reviews construction documents, issues permits and provides inspections on all building, mechanical and electrical systems, including fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems. Its purpose is to provide uniform minimum standards and requirements for the erection, construction, repair, alteration and maintenance of buildings, as they relate to the conservation of energy, safety, and sanitation of buildings for their intended use and occupancy.
Safety a mandate
The department plays an important role in enforcing building codes to allow safe construction of various building types and sizes. The importance of building codes, their regulation and enforcement, is often overlooked until a catastrophic fire or other construction-related tragedy draws attention to a structure. On a regular basis, the Clermont County Building Department ensures that buildings in the Clermont County community are safe, healthy and accessible places to work, play and live by reviewing building plans, issuing building permits and inspecting buildings during various construction stages.
The centralization of a one-stop shop continues to become more and more of a reality! At 2275 Bauer Road, only one application is required for building, electric, mechanical, Water Management & Sediment Control, sewer, water, driveways, sidewalks, right-of-ways, frontage, fire protection and floodway permits. The General Health District, still a separate entity, relocated in 1996 to Bauer Road, where it continues to issue permits for items such as plumbing, and food service.
In 1997, Clermont County's Building Inspection Department was selected by the Governor's Office, as a pilot site for a statewide task force to simplify the permitting and development process for the citizens of the State of Ohio. The creation of a "No Wrong Door" operation is the goal of this task force. To that end, the Building Inspection Department is working to facilitate the review, approval and inspection procedures of all of the regulating departments within the County and the State of Ohio.
